ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Han Tümertekin is a practicing architect based in Istanbul where he founded Mimarlar Tasarim Danismanlik Ltd. in 1986 with his belief that, “It is not the answer, but the questions that would lead a design.” In addition to Istanbul, Atelier Han Tümertekin was settled in Strasbourg in 2014. His work includes projects primarily in Turkey, as well as in Netherlands, Japan, United Kingdom, France, China, Mongolia and Kenya.
Tümertekin was trained in architecture at Istanbul Technical University and received his master’s degree from the University of Istanbul. Aside from his built work, he has been teaching architecture since 1992 at various universities, such as Harvard University Graduate School of Design, Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne and Ecole Spéciale d'Architecture, Paris. He is among the founders of the graduate program in architecture at Istanbul Bilgi University, where he still teaches.
Tümertekin’s work have been widely published in international architectural journals and a monograph of his work Han Tümertekin: Recent Work was published by Harvard University Press in 2007.
He is also a recipient of several architectural prizes, including the 2004 Aga Khan Award for Architecture for the B2 House in Ayvacık, Turkey. Tümertekin served on the Aga Khan Awards as a master jury member for the 2004-2007 cycle and was a steering committee member from 2004-2016.
