ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Manuelle Gautrand is a prominent French architect who has recently received the prestigious European Prize for Architecture in 2017. After graduating from the École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture in Montpellier in 1985, she worked for different architecture studios before establishing her own practice Manuelle Gautrand Architecture in 1991. Her partner, Marc Blaising, who has become the financial and administrative director of the office, later joined in the subsequent years.
Under the leadership of Gautrand as the principal architect, the Paris-based practice takes on a diverse range of projects, ranging from cultural facilities and offices, to housing and commercial and leisure facilities. That’s why theatres, museums, and cultural centers are also some of her previous projects. Her clients include large public institutions as well as private firms in France and around the globe, including Thailand.
Gautrand’s works are widely recognized as bold and non-conforming. Her poetic architecture embraces the endless variety of forms and colors, using the most contemporary methods of planning. All her projects express a specific relationship to the site: a desire to revive it and enchant and a deep commitment to working on the programs entrusted to the firm, to make them even more efficient, more malleable and stimulating. All projects must each time become a unique and symbolic encounter between the site and the building.
Gautrand is also engaged publicly in various capacities. Her solo and joint exhibitions have been shown at Centre Pompidou-Metz, Swiss Architecture Museum in Basel and the Venice Architecture Biennale, among others. She has written numerous articles in press and several monographs while being active in teaching and giving lectures around the world.
The leading architect has been serving as the president of the French society Académie d’Architecture since 2016. In 2017, she was made ‘Officier’ of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.

ตั้งแต่ปี 2016 จนถึงกระทั่งปัจจุบัน Gautrand เป็นประธานสมาคม Académied’Architecture ในฝรั่งเศส และเมื่อปี 2017 กระทรวงวัฒนธรรมของฝรั่งเศสได้มอบเหรียญอิสริยาภรณ์ชั้น ‘Officier’ สาขาศิลปะและวรรณกรรมให้กับ Gautrand อีกด้วย
