ABOUT THE SPEAKER
When Yung Ho Chang co-founded Atelier Feichang Jianzhu (FCJZ) in Beijing in 1993, it was China’s first private architecture firm. No wonder the Chinese-American architect is recognized as one of the pioneers in architecture industry over there and known for his work in the US as well.
After graduating from Nanjing Institute of Technology, currently known as Southeast University, in China, he moved to the states and received M.Arch. from University of California, Berkeley. After teaching for over a decade, Chang returned to Beijing to establish FCJZ.
Formerly a professor and Head of the Graduate Center of Architecture at Peking University, Chang is a professor at MIT, where he used to be Head of Architecture Department. In addition to teaching, he has exhibited internationally as an artist and his works have been widely published, including the monograph Yung Ho Chang/Atelier Feichang Jianzhu: A Chinese Practice which came out in 2003. His articles have been featured in architectural journals worldwide, such as Architecture Today in France, The Art of the Moment in Italy, New Architecture and Space Design in Japan, Architecture in the US, Space in Korea, and the World Architecture in Britain.
As a notable architect known for creating modern designs with Chinese characteristics, Chang has received numerous architecture awards, including First Place in the Shinkenchiku Design Competition in 1987, the 2000 UNESCO Prize for the Promotion of the Arts, and the Academy Award in Architecture from the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 2006.
Between 2011-2017 he was a Pritzker Architecture Prize Jury member. He held solo exhibitions at UCCA in Beijing in 2012, and has also participated in various art, architecture exhibitions and biennials, including six times in Venice Biennale since 2000.
Yung Ho Chang คือหนึ่งในสถาปนิกที่มีอิทธิพลอย่างมากในแวดวงสถาปัตย์ที่ประเทศจีน เพราะในปี 1993 เขาได้ร่วมก่อตั้ง Atelier Feichang Jianzhu (FCJZ) ซึ่งถือเป็นบริษัทสถาปนิกเอกชนแห่งแรกในประเทศจีน
